TRINITY LOOP

Participative Permanent Public Art

in Ireland, 2022

TRINITY LOOP is an engaging public artwork commissioned for Scoil Phádraig in Portarlington, Co. Laois.

Drawing inspiration from the symbolic significance of the Celtic Trinity Knot, this intricate yet minimalist knot, representing various triads like land, sky, and sea, offers diverse interpretations, inviting personal connections for observers.

The sculpture, a dynamic three-dimensional representation of the Trinity Knot, encourages children to interact actively, fostering playfulness and exploration. Comprising three identical arches rotating at 120-degree intervals, it stands as a captivating structure.

Crafted with precision, Trinity Loop features 356 nodes—each meticulously produced through a process involving 3D printing and steel casting. These 118 unique steel-casted nodes underwent rigorous structural testing to ensure robustness.

The sculpture's construction involves 142 meters of powder-coated steel tubes, meticulously cut into 492 pieces, and supported by 78 steel ground bases set in a foundation reinforced with six tons of concrete. The safety-conscious design extends to the floor, covered in resilient rubber mulch.

Elegantly inscribed within a seven-meter diameter circle, Trinity Loop seamlessly integrates with its surroundings while commanding attention as a prominent landscape feature.
